More medical nonsense over the last few days BUT! I attended a game of the Star Trek Adventures RPG. The Game Mistress had never GMed before so her friend had gathered a bunch of his nerd friends (including my husband, but I got to tag along) to be a test audience.

it was fun! Had a great time technobabbling such things as: could we get past the transporter room bottleneck by simply storing evacuees in the pattern buffers until later? (That one did not stick to the drawing board—fucking with the transporter never goes well.) Could we isolate this virus in the computers by pulling out the infected isolinear chips and the way they seem to do on the show all the time with no ill effects? (She gave us that one even though technically the era we were playing had never mentioned isolinear chips.)

She got very flustered, bless her, but largely because she was running the pregen adventure and it’s very linear. Best laid plans, and all that.

I now have 2 systems I want to run as solo RPGs (and possibly as games with my nerd family? My brain fog feels a bit better since my last medication adjustment so perhaps??) It turns out I’ve actually had the solo rules for the Star Trek game for a few years so I dug those out to take a gander. And you know what else I found hidden in a dusty corner of the home server? Star Trek fanfiction I wrote when I was 14, which was very exciting/embarrassing. I must have carried it in every laptop I’ve owned since mumble mumble when it was written to eventually get backed up here all these years later.

In craft news I’m making my little flower motifs for my wheelchair blanket, and also picked up a knitted blanket that’s also modular so I can switch back and forth between little projects and not go mad.

I fell in love with the colourway of the Origami Blanket a few years ago but couldn’t confidently crochet at the time so I put a pin in it until later. I can crochet now but I’m already crocheting all those flowers and miss knitting a bit but cannot face another sock until autumn, so! Knit pinwheels it is!

My birthday present to myself was a bag of Yarnsmith Create DK in my best approximation of that colour palette. That arrived yesterday, so now I have one complete Pinwheel block!

29 blocks to go. It didn’t really take that long? I could finish this in a couple of months, if I assume I make half a pinwheel a day. I won’t, because I’m like that. But in theory, yeah.

So a few weeks ago my mum asked me to help with her knitting group’s project to gather as many of these charity bear dolls as they can. They’re for their local children’s centre and will be handed out to the tinysmalls who go to their feelings class (I don’t know what that is but I’m guessing from the name that a lot of people could have used one at that age though. I am hoping the next generation will turn out a bit more well adjusted than we did?)

A line up of several finished bear dolls made by the designer.
Cute, no?

a part finished knitted bear, still flat on the needles. Posed on my lap and my highland cow lap blanket. In theory I should be able to knock these up fairly quickly, but I’ve had a block about it until yesterday when I finally managed to finish the flat knit part. Today between a well overdue haircut and some chores I’m hoping to do the finishing.

I followed my mum’s choice of knitting it flat rather than follow the pattern and do it on DPNs. Mainly because, though I prefer magic loop I didn’t actually have 3mm needles of any kind (how??) and the straight needles were cheaper. I am remembering now that I don’t love knitting stockingette on straight needles, so perhaps it was worth that extra… I don’t remember, it was probably a couple quid at most.

Oh, hey! THAT was the block.

I really like this yellow. I think it’s Winnie the Pooh colour so I might do a yellow/red one?

In other (gross) news I woke up with a mild infection in two piercings—entirely my fault and at a level that I can deal with at home with my sterile saline spray—but it’s aggravated my MCAS so I’m all blistery and eczema-y (in my hands? It always goes for my hands and feet first) and my bones hurt. I am not looking forward to dragging myself out for my haircut today.

I will look very cute later though, so I will take painkillers and my rescue meds and persevere.

Edit: hairdresser needed to reschedule and it’s for a terrible reason but I did get time to rest and feel better post rescue meds. Phew.

This is actually A Few Years’ Round Up.

Honestly the last few years are a bit of a blur but I try to take a lot of photographs so I can look back and remember that stuff actually happened. I found some pictures of notable knitting projects:

I knit a lot of socks! Some are for me, some for The Beef, some for my parents. I make them for everyone for Xmas and their birthday.

It looks like the original image of my Little Cotton Rabbit has broken but I made him in 2020, I think. I made a load of new little clothes for him recently though. I’ve made 3 frogs so far but this is the only photo I got before I gifted them all away. I plan to make more. Eventually. There have been some patterns for whimsical little clothes released since I made mine, and I simply must make a pumpkin costume, I must.

Man. I haven’t posted since 2022. I don’t entirely recall why but I see in one of my last posts that I hadn’t pinned down my pesticide issue so I was probably Quite Sick for long enough that I forgot everything about my hobbies again.

In the meantime I have been diagnosed with MCAS, have an assortment of new medications, and have weeded out a lot of triggers from my diet and environment. Unless something unusual happens I mostly chug along with only (“only”) my M.E. and persistent vertigo to worry about.

I’ve been knitting! I’ve been writing a LOT. My dearest darlingest husband (henceforth known as The Beef) gifted me an iPad so I could write anywhere I am able to sit instead of having to set my laptop up in bed and it’s my prized possession. I now curl up in my bright yellow armchair and watch the birds visit the feeder and write my silly little stories (affectionate). In the last few years I have learned how to use full stops instead of simply continuing a sentence for as long as I feel like!

Hi! If you see this tell me what you’ve been up to in the last few years!

Moving round ups to Monday when I'm usually more able to actually do them. It's not the last day of the week (in my calendar, at least) so it bothers me because it feels like I should be looking FORWARD on a Monday not BACKWARDS but. I will get over it.

I know it's Tuesday. Shh.

Last week I was annoyed that my cough that I thought I got rid of is back! I think it's possiby not anything to do with covid but is in fact my allergies so we've kicked all out non-organic food again and I'm working on lowering my histamine levels to rebild my histamine tolerance after it's been wipes by having covid again. Very annoyed, it took me about a year and a half to fix that last time. I know what I'm doing this time at least so perhaps it'll go quicker.

In the meantime I've been knitting my log cabins squares while I wait for more yarn  for other blankets.

4 knitted log cabin style quilt squares made in different shades of colourful gradient yarns. They are laid out on a grey velvet quilted bedspread.
I haven't done maths for this project yet because I'm not sure how many squares I'll actuall ymake overall. Our bed is bigger than it was when I started it, but we were originally planning to keep it in the living room so it may not need to increase in size to match. We'll see!

I might rip back the last section of the one on the far right, I'm not keen on the beige/brown/grey and it's not in keeping with the colours of the squares I've made so far. I'll wai tuntil the point where I'm decided which leftover balls to mix n match together to make more squares so I can determine if it will be echoed elsewhere or not. I feel like a few of Kureyon colourways have sneaky sections of beige so it might be fine.

These work up very fast, if I hadn't had other things going on earlier this year I could easily have finished the blanket by doing one every few days. I Was intending to have it done by my next anniv ersary but I moved the date back a year to the milestone anniversary when I picked up a load of other more urgent blanket projects but I might not need to tbh.

I also started a playthrough of Apothecaria! I need to tinker with the style I started writing it in before I'm happy I think but Im enjoying myself. I signed up to the author;'s patreon and got most of the DLC for the first £3ish payment which is so much value for money it feels like stealing! It's recommended to keep a physicl journal for it where you write in it like it's your character's actual journal and make sketches of things they encounter etc etc which sounds amazing but I am not sure I;m ready for that level fo committment yet. I'm writing on Scrivener and once I get into the swing of it I may start writing some of it up in a journal and doing some artwork later. I actually started writing in 3rd person POV because that's what I always used to write in but it is contributing to the entries being SO LONG so I might stop that and do it the other way instead after all.

I've been looking the journals shared by other players in the author's discord and they are so wonderfully creative, it's really such a joy to look through them all. I've been feeling incredibly down this year overall for various reasons so it's nice to feel such untainted pleasure from something so whimsical and fun.

I'm using my Frodor Pavlov tarot deck to play it with and I'm thrilled to have an excuse to use that more regularly and also want it to inform the general vibe of my playthrough so I'll be keeping an eye on that as I play.

Blanket 1 (Lyra's Hue Shift afghan) and Blanket 2 (Anniversary Log Cabin Blanket) are in progress, and I have just ordered some of the yarn for Blanket 3, which will be smaller than both of the others and is needed sooner to keep my leggies warm in my wheelchair this coming winter.

The plan is for a Ten Stitch Blanket in 2 shades of Chroma Worsted, because I couldn't get enough in one colourway and the two I was torn between look like they had a colour overlap so that might look cool. It doesn't matter really if they blend as well as I imagine, it'll be a riot of colour on my lap either way, which will look v nice with my black winter coat.

I just started listening to a sci fi series I've never heard of before but is free on audible (The "Fallen Empire Ominubus" books 1-3), and I expect that will be my soundtrack to most of whatever I make over the next week or so. It's ok so far. Shrug emoji.

I just realised that I am likely to be knitting blankets for the next year. I need to finish this pink/purple/blue one for my brother's stepdaughter, but I also have a Paintbox Log Cabin Blanket on the needles that I want to finish for my 4th/1st anniversary (I was married on Leap Day 2020) because my husband has been wanting a big colourful wool blanket for us to snuggle on the sofa with.

5 knitted log cabin square blankets made in gradient yarns. The corresponding leftover balls of yarn are laid next to them.
5 down, at least 20 more to go?

I also want to make myself a woollen lap blanket for winter when I use my wheelchair because my leggies get cooooooold. And I want to make a super king sized bedspread for my bed. And something for my mother to wear on her lap when she sits outside in her fancy new swing seat because she's always cold.

I was actually going to use the Hue Shift Afghan pattern for some of those but I think I might be sick of it by then so I need to find another.

Sure wish Ravelry didn't give me migraines.

I had guests over this weekend so I did not have time to make my Sunday Round Up post which is annoying because it was only the second one. I am determined to get into a habit of it so I can prove to myself I am capable of doing literally anything consistently but oof, not a good start.

The weekend we had my husband's cousin and her family visiting was lovely overall but I won't lie it was hard spending an entire weekend with a toddler. I have worked with children that age before so I'm not unaware of what toddlers are like but I was not prepared for how much harder it would be since becoming disabled. I was the new favourite toy so my finger grabbed to walk over here and there every ten minutes and it was very very sweet but o h m y g o d. I had been intending to try to give her parents a break by engaging her as much as I could so they were able to veg out on the sofa a little bit but I couldn't keep it up.

However, once they were gone and I had a very long nap, I managed to finish the first section of my blanket!

A knitted blanket made of knitted squares in mixed shades of pink and purple, laid on a wooden floor. In the background a glass door opens onto a patio thickly forested with weeds.
That's 20%!!

I need to get a new wool needle because the one I was using has disappeared into the ether but then I will have section 1 of 4 all finished aaaaaaaaa. It didn't drag nearly as much as the blue and green one, I think the 5x5 size is just right.

As I look at it I can see that the join between squares looks like it jogs more where it's more smooth on the other side, and I hope that's because the squares are being distorted under the increased wieght of the blanket and will be fine after a wash and a block and not because I changed my pick up technique partway through. I will find out with the next square I suppose.

Nitpicking over, I love these colours so much!

I'm hoping, perhaps optimistically, that I can do enough crafting in a week that I will have interesthing things to share for future me when I look back at what the heck I even got up to.

This week I mostly knit on my next Hue Shift blanket.
a knitted blanket made of mitred squares in mixed shades of pink and purple laid out on a grey velvet quilted bedspread.

Row 1 of Section 1! That is 4% of the way through. I mathsed it.

I also attended a cider and sausage festival :O and a virtual geogame in my local city, and a picnic, on consequetive days! And now I'm absolutely knackered.

My brother is expecting his first baby with his fiancée in December, so I took the excuse to knit a baby blanket version of the Hue Shift Afghan which I'm been drooling over intermittently since it was first released.

A small knitted blanket made of squares in shades of blue and green arranged in a pattern that creates a gentle gradient. It has a black border, and is spread on a bed. In the distance there is a glass door opening onto a patio. There is, for some reason, a satellite on the patio, surronding by weeds growing up through the flagstones.

I'm so happy with it despite the obvious mistake that I left in because I was too far advanced to want to backtrack to fix it. Can you find it?

The ends are woven in now but now the thunderstorms have finally arrived the light is a bit bleh.
Now I'm starting one for my brother's step-daughter, and I really hope that shes still into these colours by the time I'm finished.

I'm 3 blocks in, but this one will full size so its going to be a mission, especially if I want it done by December!

I joined Ravelry in my mid teens and for about 5 years was a daily visitor. I dreamed in knitting. I had a project in my bag at all times. Eventually I started working but I spent my lunch break on the rav forums. I soon walked into a mental and physical breakdown which left me with multiple chronic illnesses and was unable to knit for years... and when I was I found that Ravelry gave me migraines and neurological symptoms that, while something I'm already prone to, had never been triggered by a website before.

Arms folded on a table wearing yellow and black fingerless gloves with simple colourwork and finished with big black jewelled buttons
A project made in my lunch breaks at work

I can use the pattern search on dark mode for 10 minutes max, but I have set up my own project journal on Notion to avoid looking at the site for too long. Honestly, I'm so upset by the attitude of TPTB regarding internet accessibility (some of which was pre-existing it turns out, which I had been unaware of :() that I am not sure I would want to use the forums again even if I could. So I am making profiles elsewhere in the hope that I can tap into a knitting community somewhere. It gets lonely here in my sick bed.

Where are the knitters? How does Dreamwidth work?? Am I doing it right??? My only other social media experience is Facebook and Tumblr so this feels very odd. I don't do long form posts anywhere and I don't know how to talk to nobody without feeling self conscious lmao

Ah, shit. I can tell already I will have to finally learn HTML for this.
